Another low budget, modern wall unit with crown molding that was done bu us upon request from our existing Toronto client in a need for modern yet functional wall entertainment / wall unit from natural wood in combination with light brown laminated surfaces matching his existing interior color scheme.

Even if I’m used to do my sketching by hand, this time I choose to do the first sketch in 3D and in black and white, to save time and just to get a feel of scale and have the client to critique it.

After my first preliminary sketch went back and forward couple of times with client the design went to the process of detailing it in more details and texturing for better understanding of colors and finish. Having my sketch 3D modeled and detailed is also necessary for final layout drawings with dimensions for approval.

Most of my designs includes 3D photo realistic rendering as standard feature that is included with drawings for better client visualization and full confidence of what’s going to be manufactured for him.

Backlit Onyx Bar

Last week I was in touch with Toronto interior designer Laura Hay. She was in need of a custom 7ft free standing dry bar for one of her interior design projects. Dry bars are not a very common furniture item. These bars are different from wet bars because they do not have sink with running water and can be placed anywhere because of the lack of need for this access. Laura’s material choice for this furniture piece was somewhat unusual from the beginning I thought but once I put her sketches into a 3-D view the combination of the back-lit onyx stone countertop, the chrome foot rail, the leather upholstery and dark-wood worked to create a very striking and original piece that I’m happy to share with you. Rosewood Wall Unit

Wall units are very popular furniture pieces, especially with today’s wide array of entertainment technologie. Though I am not the biggest fan of traditional furniture, I’d like to share this one with you. Upon a request from Toronto interior designer Marcia Boule to create a traditionally styled wall unit inspired by 17th century “Ethan Allen” and its early-American furniture style, I designed a piece using Indian Rosewood for its strong and unpredictable grain structure and excellent appearance after polishing. This wall unit has tall open shelving on both sides, that can also be closed with doors, and curved front drawer faces down the middle of the unit. The entire structural integrity of the unit lies in its legs and solid wood posts on each corner which was the typical constructional style for its time. I have to say, though I’m not a “traditional furniture dude”, I like this one.

Retail display system

As a millwork detailer, it is my job to solve storage obstacles and find easier solutions for very complex furnishing problems. One of the most common problems, especially with store fixtures & retail displays, is the inability to rearrange them often. Iglum solves just that. The Iglum system is nothing more than a cube that comes in a box and is ready for its easy assembly. The Iglum cube is not only easy to assemble, but it also comes in many different colors and sizes. With a little imagination and creativity it can suite almost any space and you can create with it an infinite combination of different displays or storage shapes.

Exhibit booth display

Exhibit booth displays and corporate kiosks are usually very complimented, for the most part curved or banded structures with one mission in mind – to get your attention. I jut had a change to work on one of these intricate designs for Toronto Pearson International Airport kiosk booth presenting new products of Capital One. Cool think about this whole design is that almost every peace that is on the floor is on casters and can be quickly rearranged or moved from one place to another. I had a chance to wok on many Toronto custom trade show / exhibition booths, displays, kiosks, and signs before but I have to say this one was one of the more intricate once.

Store Fixtures

Very affordable and quick, low budged store fixture design done for a Toronto retail store selling optical products. The project was sitting in my files for more than a year after the store and millwork was finished by JDMcNicoll Interiors, so I decided to render it and share it with you. Nine, diamond shaped, mirror store fixtures with operable doors and storage shaving under the counter, combined with glass shelving displays in between each mirror store fixture unit makes it an enormous storage and display place. Reception desk with high and low counter tops and tone of drawers for storage. Slat wall in the back and glass display island in the middle of the store makes it a place for a very large quantity stock of selling items. All store fixtures were CNC cut and plastic laminated and each store fixture had three pot lights installed.

Hockey Wall Unit

Hockey fan entertainment unit – I’ve got originally inspired by conceptual drownings of Eva Oravcova and her idea of having a wall unit for hockey fans during Olympic games. Entertainment unit was detailed for better constructional and functional purposes with operable drawers and storage place, while not sacrificing intricacy of this great design.

Sash Desk

Beautiful, commercial cash desk – Sash. Custom designed and made to very specific client’s needs of new opened Toronto boutique store. It doesn’t have to serve as a cash desk only but also as a commercial reception desk. Lots of storage, open shelving, wrap table and jewelery display makes it an necessity for any busy boutique store.
